HARANGI TO BE DEVELOPED AT RUPEES SEVEN CRORE;Madikeri August 30, 2006 State government has approved tenders to develop garden in Harangi reservoir at cost of rupees seven crores and a private company has come forward to take up the work. Cauvery Authority has prepared an action plan to develop Harangi as a tourist destination and had submitted it to the government for approval. The Government has approved the tender submitted by a private company ‘ Subash and Co.’ of Bangalore. The plan includes construction of lodging facility, swimming pool, musical fountain and garden. Plan to develop Harangi parallel to Krishnaraja Sagar of Mysore was the dream of the then Chief Minister R.Gundu Rao. Successive governments had ignored his plans and the Cauvery Authority with the support of the present governments has succeeded in taking approval. The work is expected to begin in two months, according to reliable sources. Meanwhile, Harangi is guarded round the clock by police in the wake of threat from terrorists. GOVERNMENT ACCUSED OF STEPMOTHERLY ATTITUDE;Mla B.A.Jeevijaya has written a letter to the Home Minister M.P.Prakash accusing that the government is showing step motherly attitude towards Kodagu district. Stating that the district has a unique history and culture of its own, he has said that the consecutive governments have been ignoring the interest of the district after its merger with Karnataka. He has said that Kodagu, which was a C state is not given any prominence after its merger with Karnataka during 1957. He questioned that the Centre which has amended constitution for more than 190 times could not amend a constitution providing extra benefits to the district. Jeevijaya said that people are being harassed by officials holding on to old rules regarding land and tree ownerships. Even today many villages have no roads and bridges he reminded. He appealed to the minister to take personel interest to pursue government to develop Kodagu and erase the separatist feeling sprouting in corners of the district. HM DOUsES HERSELF;A head mistress doused herself to death at Kushalnagar. Mahadevi, 46 committed suicide at her house in the afternoon by dousing herself with kerocene. The deceased was working as a head mistress at Gowdalli school and leaves husband and children. Ill health is suspected to be the reason for the crime. |
