RAIN AFFECTS IN KODAGU

Madikeri Aug. 21

The roads are blocked in several places due to rain and wind in Kodagu. The link between Madapur and Surlabbi was cut when a huge tree had fallen on the main road. The link between Hammiayala, Mutlu,Hachinadu, Kumbaragadige in Madikeri and Somwarpet thaluk was affected. A huge stone was toppled from a hill area and blocked the road. The PWD workers rushed to the spot and clearing is going on.

The rainfall today is decreasing in Kodagu, but the affect is causing the blockage of traffic and leakage in School and other buildings. A primary school at Hammiyala is the live evidence for the underdevelopment of villages. The water seepage in the building even does not allow the black board for use in this school. The bridges are not yet constructed in Hattihole-Hammiyala road. The Hammiyala villagers near Madikeri are the worst sufferers by the rain this year. The wild elephant also attack here. No Roads, No bridges and the villagers are slowly moving to other places. The Govt. schemes does not reach here. No body is concerned to hear the grievances of the villagers in Hammiyala and Muttlu and Hachinadu villages.

The Deputy Commioner Subodh yadav also had the bad experience. He tried to visit these villages with his colleague officers to hear the grievances of the villagers. The condition of the roads created problem to the Dc’s Jeep which was stuck and D.C.Had to return back in some other vehicle. The incident happened, a few days back.

The average rainfall in Madikeri thaluk this year till today is 124 inches,It is 80 inches in Somwarpet thaluk and 82 inches in Virajpet thaluk. Harangi reservoir level reached 2858 feet.
