LIFER FOR MURDER ACCUSED

The daughter facing the charges of murdering her own father was convicted for lifer by the Kodagu district and Sessions Judge venkatesh.The incident was reported On 17-8-2004. Dharmavathi of Harijana colony Besagoor, ponnampet had used sickle and attacked her father Babu, who had collapsed on the spot. According to the charges made :she had taken revenge for the physical attack by her father who had questioned her about the illicit contact with other person than her husband. Infact she has two children also. She left the husband’s house 9 years back quarreling with him and was residing in her father’s house only. .The other accused who were facing to have cooperated with her in the crime are released .

In another Judgement the District and Sessions judge has convicted Mavoji Ganesh a political leader from Kushalnagar for life imprisonment He has convicted other 7 accused Jeevan,Chidanand,Dinesh, Mahesh, Achaiah, prasanna and Damodar for 4 years of imprisonment. The 17 member group were facing charges of murdering the then Youth Congress president of Kushalnagar Shamnuga during 1994 Aug. 6th.The accused moved in the car and directly shooted Shanmugaa who was succumbed to injuries. PROTEST-OPPOSITIONS

The people of Kodagu and some agitation orgonisations oppose and protest for many damaging developments in the District.

The Kavery Sene headed by Ravi Chengappa had proved the illegal mining activity in Tholuru Shettalli village, Somwarpet thaluk.They visited the spot with press persons and disclosed the practical damage to environment and the earth. The local leaders Hosabeedu Hoovaiah and D.S.Kushalappa has mentioned the heavy damage caused to the Mookrigudda and Galibetta hillls due to the continuous mining by the vested people.. The miscreants have even denuded the valuable trees. After digging for the valuable granites the huge stones and boulders were toppled and many private estates and forest trees are damaged. The orgonisation has alleged the collusion of the public representatives in this illegal mining.

If the protest is against the mining in North Kodagu, another type of protests and agitations already started in South Kodagu aginst the High-tension wire path project by Power Corporation of India. The Corporation intends to install the high tension wires to connect 400 K.V.power line to Kerala. The Gonikoppal Citizens Forum, Kodagu Growers Association, and Small growers associations joined together have conducted a meeting at Gonikoppal straight away opposing the implementation of the project through Kodagu border area only for the benefit of other neighbouring state. The line commencing from Maldare will pass through Kutta and joins Calicut in kerala.The Corporation aimed at installing 50 huge towers within the range of 20 K.Ms in Kodagu District.This project damages the forest trees and private estates. The Chescom Manager who was present in the meeting rejected the plea by the localities to shift the project way to Nagarahole games Sanctuary area. He assured the Chescom will involve in protecting the public properties and to reduce the quantum of damage. However the leaders J.A.Karumbaiah,M.K.Nanjappa, C.P.Muthanna, Malchira Nanaiah., M.C.Bose, B.A.Ramesh have jointly warned the Power Corporation of future consequences if they go on with the project.

Meanwhile Kutta, Shrimangala, Nalkeri, Balele, T.Shetigeri, Birunani, Balyamandur, Hudikeri, Thithimathi and Devarapira villagers in South Kodagu have conducted a joint meeting at Kutta and announced the Bund Call on Aug. 15th on the Independence day. They warned the forest department and the Govt to stop the wild animals like tigers and elephants menace in these areas within 15th of this month. Otherwise they will call for Bundh on the Independence day to protest t against the inaction. They warned the forest department of consequences if they fix the villagers who shoot the wild animals for their life protection. A non political agitation committee under the leadership of Gudiyangada Nanchappa has been formed..
