DHARNA IN ROTATION AT ABBI FALLS;Abbi Mini Hydel project action committee has decided to sit on Dharna in rotation till the government decides to stop the project. The action committee chief mr.Keshavananda sat in Dharna at Abbi falls area along with his supporters yesterday and said that they will hold protest from nine to five in the evening each day. Ravi Chengappa of cauvery Sene and his friends sat for dharna on the second day today. ROSE WOOD SEIZED;Two persons were arrested and a lorry along with rose wood was seized at kodagu – Kerala border yesterday. According to forest officials, a lorry was transporting rose wood worth rupees 3.5 lakh, hidden under hay. It was intercepted at Perumbadi check post at Virajpet taluk. P.J.Saji and Satish from kannanur were arrested in this connection. MEMBERS DISQUALIFIED;Controvercy rocks Town panchayath, Virajpet as four members from ruling party, congresses were disqualified by the deputy commissioner for floor crossing against the rules. M.N.harish, B.K.Sura, Madevi and Abidashafi had voted a congress rebel candidate in the election held for president and vice presidents post, thirteen months ago by ignoring the whip. The DCC president Mrs.Veen Achaiah had expelled the members from the party and lodged a complaint with the DC to disqualify their membership. The deputy commissioner mr.Subodh yadav passed an order to this effect, yesterday. The president of the TP mr.Farook Rahim has said now that he is filing a petition in High Court against the order and told that the judgment is incorrect. STUDENTS BOYCOT COLLEGE;Students of the Field marshal K.M,Kariappa college Madikeri are on indefinite strike.ah They are protesting against the shortage of lecturers and lack of facilities. The student leaders Vinay Kumar, Lohith and Poonacha stated that the BSc does not have a mathematics lecturer and their plea to fill the post is falling on deaf ears. They are boycotting classes from two days and no alternate arrangements were made. The principal Mrs.Pushpa Kuttanna told that she is in touch with the Mangalore University and senate member Mr.M.C.Nanaiah. She said that there is shortage of mathematics lecturers in many colleges. However the students are demanding immediate posting and they also want University officials to come and address them. |
