THEY ARE VOTERS, YET THEY HAVE TO SELL THEIR CHILDREN FOR A MEAL!Kushalnagar is the gateway of Kodagu. People from states capital city, including the ministers and top officials pass through this gate. But of what avail? Dwellers of a slum adjacent to the gateway, almost in the midst of market area live in distress. There is no drinking water, no other basic facilities. At the most what they can claim as they own is just this, a voters card! They curse the politicians who step into their dirty street only during election time and build castles of promise. But their woe to live in the thatched huts, which can even be blown away by winds never ends. Fifteen to twenty members of a family squeeze into one hut to continue their life. Departments like Health and Education boast about progress. While the children here have not seen a book, elders here have not heard of family planning. The result? A man boasts of three wives while another boasts of having twelve children. A lady even said that she has two husbands. Political leaders are not bothered to improve their life. Men, women and children here drink alike and create ruckus in the evenings. While nobody ever hears their woes and plights, there are instances that ladies cell their body while men sell their children, all for a single meal. GONICOPPAL BANDH TOMORROW;The Chamber of Commerce has called for one hour Gonicoppal bandh today. The president Mr.M.k.Nanjappa told in a statement that the bandh call is given to warn the government against transferring officials from the district without any reasons. In a meeting held by the Mandal pradan mr.B.D.Mukunda, Mr.Girish Ganapathy and others, the speakers saids that the bandh is inevitable as political transfers are hampering the growth of Virajpet Taluk. BARAPOLE ACTIOB COMMITTEE FORMED;A Barapole Virodi samiti has come into existence at South Kodagu with Mr.Machimada Ravindra as its general secretary. Addressing a press conference, Mr.Ravindra said that the government has okayed the project to come up in South Kodagu. He accused that cluster of villages would be drowned if the projects come up.
