AMBULANCE USED FOR SMUGGLING;In a bizarre incident, a government hospital ambulance van was used to smuggle teak wood logs to Bangalore, yesterday. DFO Mr.Rangegowda told that an ambulance vehicle belonging to Government hospital, Somwarpet was caught transporting 8 cft rose wood to Bangalore. The driver Ramesh was taking the wood along with a patient to Bangalore. Acting on a tip off, the DFO sent message across and the vehicle was blocked by police inspector Mr.Ramegowda. According to him, the ambulance was spotted crossing to Bangalore at least two to three times in a week and they never suspected smuggling in an ambulance vehicle! The Range Forest Officer Mr.Chinnappa and staff were sent to Kunigal by the DFO and they returned with the vehicle and the driver. The driver is arrested. Vehicle and the wood are seized. The Commissioners office in Bangalore said that they will initiate action against the driver after they receive official intimation about the crime committed by using the ambulance. HYDEL PROJECT PROTESTED;Large number of villagers, led by Cauvery sene took out a procession and submitted a memorandum to DC to stop the mini hydel project at Gaalibeedu. They stated that the project will hamper the properties and cause environmental imbalance. They urged the district administration to call a villagers meeting before allowing the launching of the project. Mr.Ravi Chengappa and Maleti Srinivas, mr.Keshavananda and others spoke. Mrs.Tulsi received the memorandum in the absence of DC. |
