LABOURER DIES AS A LOG ROLLS DOWN;

Madikeri October 24, 2005

A labourer Mani, 25 died on the spot yesterday as a log rolled down from a lorry and settled on him.

The deceased was loading wooden logs into a lorry at Kadnur village near Virajpet.

Virajpet police have registered a case.

ELEPHANT MENACE REPEATS;

The wild elephant menace has been hampering the normal movement for people at Maldare area near Siddapur and residents have sought immediate action.

A mother and a son had a narrow escape yesterday as two elephants charged at them. They ran helter skelter and boarded a bus coming from the opposite direction. The duo were waiting to catch the Bangalore bus on the main road at 6.15 A.M at Maldare . The villagers said that a herd of eight elephants is camping in an estate by the side of the road.

Two motor cyclists had a narrow escape as the same elephants charged at them on the same road yesterday.

ROAD BLOCKADE AT MADENAD;

The villagers of a cluster of villages held a Rasta rokho today protesting against the erratic bus facility.

The protestors alleged that the government busses are not stopping near their village situated ten kilometers from here. Added to it bus services are not provided to a couple of villages around Madenadu and people have to walk steep and narrow routes to reach main road.

Mangalore Mysore highway was blocked for more than an hour. Agitators called off the protest after officials assured to fulfill their demands.

CM CALLS DC;

The deputy commissioner’s office here received a call from a VVIP on Saturday. The Chief Minister Dharam Singh was on line!

The CM collected details about the loss incurred due to rainfall in Kodagu.

The statistics was collected as a special meeting is being held in Bangalore to discuss the situation of the rain battered state.
