YOUTH FESTIVAL KICKS OFF;

Madikeri October 20

Over five thousand artists and youth took out a colourful procession on the streets of Somwarpet yesterday evening to mark the start of the Youth festival. Women bearing ‘kalasha’, dancing troups, singing groups, folk dancers added attraction to the procession. Former MLA Appachu Ranjan flagged off the procession led by an elephant. MLA B.A.Jeevijaya, political party leaders, office bearers of different organizations and officials joined the procession.

Commissioner of Youth services and sports, K.C.Ramamurthy inaugurated the function organized by the Youth services, Youth associations and other organizations.

Addressing the gathering, Ramamurthy disclosed that Kudige sports school would be equipped with Astro turf in the 12th financial scheme. He also told that the stadiums would be developed in all taluka centres. He advised the Zilla Panchayath officials to take interest as the stadiums come under their purview. He also said that about 38,000 youth organizations have registered with the Youth Service department in the state. The government is holding taluk and district level conferences to encourage youth all over the state, he said.


WOMEN LACK LEGAL KNOWLEDGE;

The district and sessions judge venkatesh regretted that women in India lack legal knowledge and get into trouble.

Inaugurating the free legal aid programme organized jointly by legal cell, Rotary Misty Hills and press club here, Venktesh explained that every 20 minuites one family dispute arises, every 30 minutes one prostitution case comes up, every 40 minuites one rape case is reported and every fifty minuites one dowry crime is reported in the country. He stressed on the need to bring legal awareness.

He also said that the legal cell would provide free service to the poor and needy. Janatha court will settle 24 cases a year, he disclosed.

Judges Srikanth vatavati, Ramesh Ekbote and Indira Chettiar spoke on Defermation, cheque bounce cases and consumer right. B.G.Anantha Shayana presided over the meeting. Anil H.T.Welcomed the gathering and Gopal Krishna proposed the vote of thanks.
