POSTAL DEPARTMENT TAKES OUT PROCESSION;

Madikeri October 10, 2005

The district postal employees took out a procession in the main streets to mark the 150th year of Indian postal service.

The superintendent of post offices led the procession in Madikeri town. Employees from all over the district took part.

Assistant Station Director of All India radio, Indira Gajaraj addressed the function held at Head Post office. Superintendent of Post Offices M.Govinda Naik presided over the function.


EARTH QUAKE IN PAK REGISTERED AT SOMWARPET;

The seismographic instrument at Somwarpet has registered earthquake rocking Parts of India and Pakistan, two days ago.

The Mandal Panchayath administrators at Somwarpet have informed this to the department of Natural disaster management at Bangalore.

The instrument is erected at Somwarpet last month after the series of tremor and sounds noticed under ground at Somwarpet during monsoon in Kodagu.

SQUAD SEIZES SPIRIT;

The forest striking squad here has seized huge quantity of illicit spirit being smuggled in a lorry yesterday.

The squad led by Superintendent N.M.Hussain blocked a lorry transporting spirit worth rupees 1.5 lakh near madikeri and seized the vehicle along with spirit.

According to Hussain, 69 cans of spirit was hidden in a special compartment behind the drivers cabin and empty fish crates were loaded in the lorry to misguide the sleuths. However, the lorry had crossed many gates unchecked and got caught near Madikeri. Spirit was being transported from Mysore to kerala.

The lorry driver and cleaner, both from Kerala were arrested.

INNER RESERVATION HELPFUL;

The inner reservation being demanded by former Prime Minister Deve Gowda is helpful to all the backward communities, said Y.S.Dutta, state spokesman for Janatha Dal S.

Addressing a press conference here today, he said that the allegation that the Reservation issue is being raised after the conflict with Siddaramaih is false. The issue was raised well before this at Hassan, he explained.

He remarked that Siddaramaih group is not aware of the election commission and is claiming that theirs is the true JDs. He hinted that the party will not enter into any agreement in the future elections like Taluk and Zilla Panchayath.

Dutta confirmed that Rajashekar Murthy will definetly join JDs and Devegowda will announce the date of joining. Mr.Devegowda will tour Kodagu in the first week of November, he said.

Former MLA D.S.Madappa, state general secretary Sreedara nellithaya and other leaders were present in the conference.
