CROCODILES GALLORE;Madikeri October 7, 2005 Residents at Kushalnagar are terrified as they noticed a huge crocodile on the Cauvery river bank. A twelve-foot long crocodile was noticed on the banks yesterday as ladies went near the river to wash cloths and take bath near the market. The residents have complained that crocodiles have been noticed in Bychanalli area and appealed to authorities to take security measures. They have also alleged that the river is being polluted with animal wastes from butcher shops attracting crocodiles. KODAGU FIRST IN FAMILY PLANNING;The health and Family Welfare department in Kodagu has something to celebrate. It stood first in family planning in the state. The district H and FW officer Dr.Jagannath told this correspondent that the department has worked hard to take the district to first place. He also appreciated that the people here are well educated and have no dogma to have more children and male child. Kodagu as it is stands third in the state as far as literacy is concerned. HYDEL PROJECT FACES A NEW HURDLE;The proposed mini hydel project at Abbi falls finds itself in a new spot with the opposing groups emerging with a new weapon to stop it. The villagers of K.Nidugane and Cauvery Sene members have alleged that two worship places belonging to Sc St would be submerged if the project was taken up. The Cauvery sene convenor Ravi Chengappa told scribes that the constructors already damage the traditional worship places and they will not allow the project to take shape at any cost. |
