ANCIENT SILVER COINS TO ARCHEOLOGY DEPARTMENT;

Superintendent of police Devajyothi Ray told in a press conference at Somwarpet that the ancient coins recovered from under ground in an estate at Kodlipet would be handed over to Archeological department.

He revealed that the coins belong to 1172,1835, 1935 and also 380 B.C.

The inscriptions on the coins carry the names of parsi and Arab Kings, name of the East India Company and Hindu deities.

190 coins were recovered inside a coffee estate at Kelakodli village near Kodlipet, recently.

SP told that no one is arrested in this connection since the estate workers who found the copper vessel with coins handed over them to authorities.

DySP Jayaram, CI Gopalkrishna Bhat were present in the press conference.


LIFER FOR THREE;

District and Sessions judge Venkatesh has sentenced to life three persons involved in brutal murder of two persons.

Three brothers Dayanad, Girish and Lokesh are sentenced to life and to pay a fine of rupees five thousand each for murdering a father and son, Vijaya Kumar and Subraya Gowda.

The incident of murdered occurred during2003 at Chembebellur near Shanivarsanthe. The two accused among the three were arrested in connection with sandal wood smuggling on 24.6.2003. The accused suspected that their neighbor Vijayakumar has hinted the police and butchered him to death the next day. His father Subraya Gowda, who came for the rescue, was also brutally killed on the spot.

POLICE PREPARED TO FACE DASARA;

DySP Halesh Naik told the scribes that the department is all set to protect law and order during Dasara festival.

He said that over two lakh tourists will visit Madikeri during Dasara and police from neighboring districts will be brought. Police would be posted to Karagas, temples and Mantaps.

7 inspectors, 27 Sub inspectors, 28 ASIs and 350 constables will be posted for duty. Home guards and lady constables will also be on duty he said.

Police troops are also deputed to supervise Dasara celebrations at Gonicoppal.
