GAS DISTRIBUTION CREATES HAVOC;

Shortage of domestical gas distribution is creating havoc between dealers, consumers and middlemen in Kodagu. Some of the distributors are seeking police protection during distribution.

About eight dealers who are supplying gas to Kodagu have alleged that the supply is cut by 30 to 40 %. This has given a big blow to them and consumers are taken off guard. Added to this officials are going strict about the distribution.

The assistant director of Food and Civil supplies, Hombalegowda told this correspondent that the government would like to restrict illegal sale and usage of gas cylinders by vehicle owners, business men and middlemen. He stated that the dealers should stop issuing cylinders directly from their shops and godowns and should give door delivery to them. He said that middlemen are selling domestic cylinders at a very high price. However he said that he is unaware of what the government is doing about the short supply.

Meanwhile some of the dealers state that false shortage is being created as government has to pay subsidy of around rupees 90 per cylinder. They are unble to face the consumers as there is huge cut and untimely supply. People from far off places come in a group and collect cylinders by producing cards. How can we check whether they are going to sell them or use them personally?, they question.

Moreover Kodagu is a hilly station making door delivery a difficult task.

Besides, the district administration held a high level meeting recently and chalked out plans to curb illegal supply and usage of cylinders. Officials are instructed to conduct raids and check vehicles.
