KODAVA, TULU, KONKANY ACDEMIES MEET UNDER ONE ROOF;

Kodava, Konkani and Tuly academies met her today under one roof and exchanged views.

Retired General B.C.Nanda inaugurated the cultural meet at Cauvery college premises, Gonicoppal and said that the minor languages can survive only with the help of government. He recalled the contribution of former Chief Minister Veerappa Mopily in forming the Kodava Academy here.

President of the Kodava Academy Dotty Poovaiah presided over the function and said that though the country houses people speaking different languages, we are all Indians at first. She said that the days meet is historical as presidents of three academies are meeting less than one roof for the first time.

President of the Tulu Academy, Seetharam Kulal expressed that meeting of this kind will enhance the unity of all language speaking communities. He stated that academies should demand land from the government, build community halls, and avoid depending upon Kannada Bhavans for conducting meetings.

He announced that a similar meeting of multi academies would be held at Mangalore during February first week.

Konkani Academy president Eric Rozario stated that minority languages should grow together to strengthen their existence.

Ittira Biddappa, Richard Lasrado and Gananath Ekkar presented essays on the similarities in languages. K.N.Chengappa and C.K.Poovappa were the chief guests.

JDS TO OPPOSE ABBI HYDEL PROJECT;

The district Janatha Dal has passed a resolution opposing the commencing of Mini Hydel project here.

Stating this in a press conference, district in charge minister Alangur Srinivas and MLC Arun machaih stated that the Chef Minister would be urged to give up the project.

Addressing scribes here yesterday, the minister said that the Deputy chiefminister has agreed to cancel the project in spirit and the matter would be brought to the notice of the chief minister.

Earlier the minister met the members of Cauvery sene who are sitting on prtest in front of the DCs office indefinetly opposing the project.

KODAVA SAMAJ TO PROTEST IN BANGALORE;

Convenor of the Cauvery Sene, Ravi Chengappa told here today that the members of Bangalore Kodava Samaj will sit in a dharna in front of Gandhi statue in Bangalore today.

He said that the members of cauvery sene will also join the protest and urge the government to cancel the project.

KODAVA NATIONAL DAY HELD;

Codava National Council has decided to boycott all future elections.

Convenor of the CNC, N.U.Nachappa yesterday called upon its members to boycott all the elections as the governments are ignoring their demand to provide constitutional guarantee and other rights.

Nachappa was addressing a crowd after taking out a procession attired in traditional cloths. CNC celebrated Kodava National day at Gandhimaidan and placed over 13 demands including declaring Kodava land etc.
