MURDER PANICKS TOWN;

Unknown men at Virajpet shot an upcoming politician wanted in many criminal cases dead today. Panik struck the town as the murder took place before dusk in front of many people.

According to police Kunjanda Ravi, 48, was shot from a moving vehicle in the heart of the town around 7 P.M. A blue Maruthi van stopped in front of Ravi who was talking to people. Someone from the van called his name. As he turned around, he was shot at face twice. The crowd around him could not learn what was happening as the shooters used a silencer. Onlookers said that Ravis cap flew in the air with a chip of his brain. However, he was shifted to a nearby private hospital where he was declared dead.

Hundreds of people gathered before the hospital to take a look at the body.

Ravi was involved in many criminal activities and was operating from behind. He had opened fire in a bar in Mysore few years back. He was also planning to contest for the Jilla Panchayath election from Congress. Politicians were using him for muscle power during elections.

Enimity is suspected to be the reason for the murder. He leaves his pregnant wife Sheela.

Police are investigating.

GOYATHRA ENTERS KODAGU;

The state wide Goyatra organized by Ramachandrapur Mutt, Shimoga entered Kodagu yesterday. The Yatra cart was welcomed at the gate way of Kodagu at Kushalnagar. It was received at Sunticoppa with Kumba kalasha, aarti and dance.

Vishwa Hindu Parishath president K.S.Devaiah, Matrumandali president Vijaya Vishnu Bhat, former MLA Appachu ranjan, G.Rajendra and others received the yatra accompanied by pontiffs and others. Yatra was also received at Madikeri before leaving to South Canara.

Addressing the gathering at Sunticoppa Ravindra Brahmachari of Gopala Govardana Goshala, Rajastan called upon the people to rejuvenate the Cow culture, which holds Cows in high esteem and worships them. He regretted that the foreign breeds are pushing the native breeds into insignificance. He appealed to centre to ban cow slaughtering in the lines of

Rajastan in all the states of India. He regretted that only 3000 crore cows exist in the country against the hundred crore population of mankind due to slaughtering.

Arameri kalanchakeri Mutt swamiji said that the development of a country depends on its resources. He regretted that the country has started 36 thousand slaughter houses after Independence and this is a sign of down fall.

VHP president K.S.Devaiah presided over the meet.


MANUSCRIPT REJUVINATION;

A drive to collect ancient manuscripts under national Manuscipt Abhiyan scheme from the central government was inaugurated here yesterday.

Kannada Sahitya Parishath president T.P.Ramesh inaugurated the function and said that efforts to collect and preserve historical manuscripts were not done so far. He suggested the members to visit remote places and meet old generations to learn and collect ols manuscripts.

Chief guest B.G.Anantha Shayana told that manuscripts are kept in hiding by manby families and religious

groups because of religious superstition. Bringing them out will reveal more information about our culture, he explained.

Presiding over the meet, T.C.Thammaiah said that it is the duty of everyone to preserve the manuscripts continued from our fore fathers.

Convenor of the Abhiyana, Muneer Ahmad said that manuscripts older than 80 years would be traced from the district. He said that the owners.

LEGAL EDUCATION ESSENTIAL FOR CHILDREN;

Chief justice and in charge of Kodagu, G.Ramesh stated that providing legal education along with other subjects is essential for children.

Inaugurating a free legal programme for teachers here yesterday, he regretted that the prgrammes to propagate importance of legal knowledge is not reaching everyone. He urged the teachers to take interest in learning legal knowledge to educate children. Lack of legal knowledge is the reason for the increase of crime in the society he said.

Presiding over the meet district and sessions judge Venkatesh stated that people should be aware of their duties and rights.

Principal Shankarappa, BAR association president medappa, BEO Sridhar were present.Advocates K.P.Balasubrahmanya, Nagendra Babu spoke in the sessions.
