A TENT SCHOOL ENTHRALLS TRIBES;Festive mood delighted the crowd yesterday at the small island Dubare near Kushalnagar as a tent school was inaugurated. Education department and forest department together launched this school under Sarvashiksha abhiyana scheme. It is a boon for the tribes as their children had to cross-river twice a day to go to the school at Nanjarayapatna. Crossing the river poses life threat, as water would flood during monsoon. Children would discontinue studies for the fear of life, each year and pose a problem to the society. But now a school with a capacity of 25 students was thrown open yesterday. DIET principal Shankar inaugurated the school and advised the parents to send their children to school. Education officer Malleswamy explained that the Tribes who were suffering since decades to send their children to school by crossing the river are gifted with this opportunity as a result of the co-operation from Forest department. Books, uniforms and plates were distributed to students. GIRLS BODY RECOVERED;Body of Ragini, who died due to a fall from a waterfall at Mallalli near Somwarpet was recovered after six days. The body was stuck between rocks underneath the falls and experts from Mysore pulled it out. It can be recalled that her friend Nagambica committed suicide unable to bear the loss of her friend after two days after the incident. LAND TREMBLING REPEATS;Land trembling which had rocked the residents of Somwarpet repeated yesterday night. Residents of three blocks at Somwarpet are perturbed as heavy sound underneath shook them from their sleep. Land trembling had created havoc after August during monsoon. A seismographic equipment was installed here to keep track of the earths activity. The expers had convinced the residents by stating that the friction of water and gas underneath was causing sound. However residents are concerned now that the trembling is repeating even after the rains have subsided. GOVERNMENT WILL COMPLETE ITS TERM;Chief Minister Dharam Singh today asserted that the government will complete its term and will continue to rule for the next 3.5 years. The Chief Minister was addressing a mammoth congress rally organized here. Continuing he said that the state government is committed to solve the problems and develop Kodagu. He recalled the rupees fourteen crore released for rain damage and said that another 11 crore would be released as soon as the Deputy Commissioner sends action plan. He also said that funds are being released for the development of Talacauvery. Dharam Singh assured to solve the Jamma land problem and timber ownership claims after discussing them in the cabinet. He announced that rupees thirty lakh each would be released to Gram Panchayaths with the assistance of Central government and the state is stressing to centre for its release. He also opined that women and Sc St candidates are given prominence in GP and ZP elections. KPCC president Mallikarjuna Kharge stated that the state government is distributing rice at a rate of rupees three per kilogram to the poor. Allotment of Ashraya houses to the needy and Bisi Oota are some of the programmes re aching the grass root he explained. He asserted that only Congress can give good administration since it is spread from Kashmir to nkanyakumari. Former president of the KPCC B.Janardhana Poojary bombarded H.D.Devegowda and challenged him by stating let Devegowda reduce the interest on loan to 4% through the finance minister who hails from his party. He said that the Congress government has given books to 60 lakh students. Kodagu Congress president Veena Achaiah presided over the function. Former ministers M.M.Nanaiah, Suma Vasanth, T.John, observers Jalaja naik, Muktarunnisa, Dr.Dejamma, KPCC general secretary Ramachandrappa, state Sevadal chief Shankara Gowda Patil, KPCC member Mittu Chengappa and others were present on the dais. |
