16 HYDEL PROJECTS AFFECTS ENVORNMENT:ARUN MACHAIAH

Madsikeri Nov. 13 16 Electro Hydel projects are sanctioned by the State Govt. in Kodagu district irrespective of protests from the local persons-disclosed Arun Machaiah, the M.L.C. In an interview with the "Times Of India" he criticized the forcible act by the concerned departments in implementing these projects. According to authentic report due to the heavy rain this year there is excess of electricity production in the state. Nearly 3,800 mega vats electricity is more produced. There is no need of starting any new generation projects.

Only, the involvement of money flowing in the administrative level and also single motto of earning by the concerned production companies had caused the fast implementation of these projects-alleged Arun. The KPTCL will purchase the produced electricity in the range of Rs. 1.80 per unit. The companies, which are permitted to produce electricity, have the capacity of generating 4 lakh unit per hour. Per day production will make them to earn lakhs of rupees. This desirous motto is the main cause for the special interest in the project ans they don’t have any service aim in this-analysed Arun Machaiah.

Further, in some places like Irpu falls the whole infrausructural work completely affects the sole religious atmosphere in the region. The falls include Lakshmana Thirtha and Rama thirtha. There is an ancient Irpu Shri Rameshwara temple in the region.

Piligrims vist here to get peaceful and silent calmness. Even some ceremonial performances are carried on the banks of these rivers. By sanctioning the hydel power project by using these rivers Govt. is connived to disturb the religious mood of the pilgrims and the localities- alleged Arun Machaiah. He demanded the stoppage of work already started in Abbifalls area near Madikeri
