ITDP OFFICER FACES CHARGE;

The deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav and Chief Executive Officer Sundar Naik told here that they have sent a recommendation letter to the government to initiate action against the ITDP officer A.Satyanarayan .

They stated that large-scale misappropriation was reported in the department and the funds meant for the development of tribes was gobbled by the officer.

The district administration took this action only as representatives of tribes led by Nirvanappa sat on a fast unto death dharna since two days and demanded action against the officer. The administration kept on ignoring the demand since months and responded to the demand only as few tribes fell sick due to fasting yesterday. A 63 old person Thammu and T.Rajappa had to be shifted to hospital. Government doctors arrived at the spot and treated few others. District in charge secretary Sridhar listened to the protestors and assured action.

Dharna was called off after the assurance. However, Nirvanappa told scribes that they will intensify the protest in case the government fails to initiate action in fifteen days.

SECRETARY HURRIES MEETING;

The district in charge secretary and secretary of the transport authority Sridhar disappointed the members by hurrying the Karnataka development Review meeting at Madikeri yesterday. Arriving late, he hurried to close the meeting by lunch hour. Kannada Vigilance Committee member G.Chidvilas had a list of grave problems requiring secretarys attention. He was snubbed asking questions and Sridhar avoided answers with excuses.

Though he said that he would answer questions after the meeting, he zoomed off to Inspection bungalow to have lunch. But the members led by G.Chidvilas followed him to the bungalow and told him that he has to discuss the problems of shifting of private bustand, rejuvenating honey industry, taking up tourism projects etc. The secretary had to call the concerned and instruct them to look into the development aspects with priority.

MCN LAMBASTS:

Reacting to the negligence shown by Sridhar in conducting meeting, former minister M.C.Nanaiah questioned whether these officials are coming to Kodagu as a picnic.

He said that he will complain to the Chief Minister about the lethargy of officials and request him to send sincere officials. If the state officials cannot find time to work for the district, let the government order Deputy Commissioner to look into problems, he opined.

AAT PAAT PADIPU;

Kodava Sahitya Academy president Dotty Poovaiah said here that the year would be celebrated as Kodava year at government junior college.

Addressing the gathering at the valedictory function at the Jr College, she stated that fifty boys and fifty girls in the college are trained in Bolakat, Kolat and Ummatat to bring awareness about the culture.

Principal Rekha Kalaiah was also present.
