RETIRED COP DIES IN AN ACCIDENT;A retired police sub inspector and another person from Kodagu died on the spot and three others were injured in a car accident reported at Hunsur yesterday. The incident occurred as five persons were traveling to Mysore from Arameri village to attend the funeral of one Nayakanda Janaki Mandanna. The Maruthi car they were traveling turned turtle and nose dived into a gorge. While Appachu alias Tammani , sitting at the front seat died on the spot, the retired sub inspector Nayakanda Appaiah, driving the car died at Apollo hospital, Mysore. Mrs.Appaiah is undergoing treatment at Apollo with multiple fractures. Two others Uthaiah and his wife received minor injuries. Accident occurred as the front tyre of the car burst. Funeral of the dead would be held at Arameri today. YOUTH KILLED;In another accident reported from South Kodagu, a youth died at Hathur near Gonicoppal. A pillion rider Vishu Subbaiah died on the spot as the bike he was traveling hit a person and a stationery bus. Bike rider tried to avoid the pedestrian in a junction and lost balance. The pedestrian who was hit has also incurred fractures and is hospitalized. The rider Pravin escaped with minor injuries. Deceased leaves wife and two children. KOOTANDA TEAM SNATCHES RINK HOCKEY TITTLE;Kootanda family team won a thrilling match against the Kambiranda in the finals of Kodava rink hockey held at Devanageri. Kootanda walked to victory with 11 - 9 against Kambiranda. An exhibition match of the national hockey players and Kodava planters club was also conducted on the occasion. Director of the Coorg Foundation, Ballachanda Chengappa distributed the prizes. National players len Aiyappa, Cheppudira S.Poonacha, Kootanda Poonacha, Mukkatira Vinodh Poonacha, Pullangada U.Bopanna, Kulletira Uthaiah and Buttianda Chengappa were honoured on the occasion. Educationist Dr.M.M.Chengappa and former commissioner of guides Meenakshi Poonacha were also felicitated on the occasion. Air Force officer Palekanda Aiyappa presided over the function.Chief guests N.Chengappa, Pandanda Kuttappa and Palekanda Muddappa addressed the gathering . Dr.Chengappa and Meenakshi Poonacha also spoke after receiving honour. |
