ANTIQUES GALORE IN KODAGU;Ancient coins and jewelry were found under ground during a temple renovation work at Kunjila village near here. Lakhs of rupees worth jewelry was found while digging the ground for the reconstruction of an ancient temple of Mahavishnu. The valuables include 1111 gold coins, necklaces, beads and other jewelry. Tahasildar K.P.Somaiah and others visited the spot and recorded the findings. The temple renovation committee has kept the items for the people to see and wishes to hand it over to the government. Meanwhile a rare designed weapon was recovered from a stream at Kaggodlu. Children playing in the knee high water stepped on the antique. The short and heavy, brass weapon is believed to belong to the Kings time, hundreds of years ago. CNC CALLS OFF DHARNA;The Kodava National Council called off its six day DHARNA being held in Fort premises. The indefinite dharna was being held demanding constitutional guarantee, considering Kodavas as tribes etc. The CNC general secretary Mr.N.U.Nachappa handed over a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner. He has cautioned that the protest will take new turns if the government keeps ignoring their demand and they will intensify their fight. ANOTHER DOWRY DEATH;Close on the heels of two dowry deaths reported in Kodagu in two months, one more death has been reported from Hebbale, near Kushalnagar. Sheela, 18 was dozed in kerosene and killed by setting her ablaze in her house early, yesterday. Neighbors who heard her scream broke into the house and shifted her to the hospital in vain. They said that her husband and mother in-law were inside the house at the time of the incident. Sheela was shifted to a hospital at Mysore, where she died. Kushalnagar police arrested her husband Ganesh and mother in law, Sarojamma. Ganesh had married the girl just eight months ago and was pressing her for dowry, it is reported. |
