SUB INSPECTOR SUSPENDED;Police sub inspector Mr.Prakash Gowda, serving at Kushalnagar allegedly involved in stealing rose wood tree is suspended by the Superintendent of Police, Mr.Devjyothi Ray. Chairperson of the KUWS, Mrs.K.P.Chandrakala, former MLA Mr.Appachu Ranjan and ZP member Mr.V.P.Shashidhar had recently accused Mr.Prakash Gowda of cutting and transporting two rose wood trees to build a house at Bangalore. They had threaened to hold a rally against him, if the authorities do not suspend him by June 2. SP Ray and forest officials yesterday visited the spot and verified the stems of rosewood and later issued suspension order. A forest guard Rajappa was also transferred in this connection. INTER CLUB SKATING TOURNEY;The roller skating association of Kodagu is conducting a two day state level inter club skating tourney at Madikeri. Informing this to scribes, president Mr.Jeevan Chinnappa told that the tourney would be held between 27 and 28. More than thirty participants have already registered their names, he said. BALOPAT SEMINAR HELD;The Kodava Academy held a seminar on Balopat folk songs of Kodagu at Madikeri. Addressing the seminar, president of the academy, Mrs.Dotty Poovaiah said that the seminar was organised to rejuvenate the dying spirit of Balopat and bring awareness about its imoportance. She informed that Balopat highlights the art, culture and greatness of Kodavas. Mr.Ittira Biddappa in his speech said that a seperate fund for Balopat should be addressed. Day long talks and discussions on the subject were held. QUARRY WORK STOPPED;Members of Kaveri sene and other organisations yesterday laid seige to the quarry at Tolur Shettalli yesterday and blocked the work. The protestors alleged that the work was going on inspite of the objection from the district administaration. Convenor of Kaveri sene, mr.Ravi Chengappa confirmed the decision of the district administration which has issued notice to the quarry owners to stop the work, from the spot and forced them to evacuate excavator and other materials being used for quarrying. The workers were taken to task by the protestors in heavy police bandobasth and cautioned not to venture into the sight again. |
