PROJECT FOR PERMANENT DRINKING WATER;

The Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage board has accepted a project to find permanent drinking to solve the burning problem of Madikeri town.

The managing director of board Mr.Srinivas Reddy,chairperson Mrs. K.P.Chandrakala approved the project submitted by the delegation of City Municipal Council at Bangalore.

The project estimated at a cost of rupees one crore will fill water in the dried up Kutuhole by drawing water from vanachalu, where perennial water source exists.

The delegation included CMC members Mr.Subramani, Mr.Nandakumar, Mrs. Tahira, Mrs.Monti Ganesh and others.

ONE ARRESTED ON DOWRY CHARGE;

The town police have arrested one Rafik of Madikeri on charges of harassing his wife to get dowry.

Rafik was sent to judicial custody, based on the complaint from his wife Afsath. He had been causing her physical and mental harassment since few years to bring more dowry, she has complained.

CNC HOLDS DHARNA

Members of the COORG NATIONAL COUNCIL YESTERDAY held a dharna in front of the Fort demanding special status to Kodagu and constitutional guarentee to Kodavas.

CNC secretary general Mr.N.U.Nachappa led the dharna. A memorandum was submited to Deputy Commissioner Mr.Subramanyam.

PUBLIC THWART HYDEL PROJECT;

Members of Kaveri Sene, Anekatte virodhi samithi and others held a protest against the mini hydel project scheduled to come up at Abbifalls yesterday and urged the district administration to withdraw all such projects from kodagu.

People in large number gathered at Galibeedu yesterday and sent back the excavator which arrived at the spot to begin the work regarding mini hydel project.

Addressing gatheringRavi Chengappa of Kaveri sene asserted that they wont allow any mini hydel project, which hurts the sentiments and damages the environment in Kodagu.

CHEATS CHEATING CHEATS HELD;

The rural police yesterday bumped against a group indulging in brawl at Murnad and arrested five of them and seized a Santro car.

According to police, a group of men from a Sandal wood oil extracting unit at Kasargod landed at Murnad near madikeri, seeking illegal sale of sandalwood.

Two local people sold four gunny bags of sandal wood to one Abbas and others for twenty thousand and received the cash. The buyers opened the bag to verify the contents. To their shock, the bags contained jungle wood, instead of sandal!

The sellers tried to run with the pretext that police have arrived. However, the groups indulged in a fight. Noticing public nuisance, police arrested some of them, while few escaped. The car and the wood were also seized!
