DISTRICT STANDS THIRD IN PU RESULT;

Kodagu has stood second in the state in PU results for the second consecutive year.

It has scored 61.64 percent. Udupi, as it is announced stands first by securing 76.87 percent and South Canara stands second by scoring 76.16 percent. Koppal district hits the bottom with only 40.63 percent.

DRUNKARD ATTACKS MOTHER;

Ibrahim, a youth from Bethu village attacked his mother with a billhook and attempted to kill her yesterday, according to police.

The report said that Ibrahim forced his mother Nabisa for money to drink at home, yesterday evening. As she refused to pay he returned with a weapon and tried to kill her, as she was watching a TV.

Nabisa collapsed with bleeding injuries on her head and shoulder. She was shifted to hospital in a serious condition. While she is in ICU, the accused was arrested by police and remanded to judicial custody.

TEAM INSPECTS AGRICULTURE LAND;

A team of Agriculture Research wing from the state visited Madikeri and inspected the land belonging to Agriculture University.

The team has come to inspect the land as a proposal was mooted to shift the private bus stand. The board of directors in a meeting held on this 8th at Bangalore decided to send a team to inspect the viability and necessity of handing over the land to CMC.

The five-member team led by Mrs.K.P.Chandrakala, who is also the chairperson of state urban water and underground drainage department told this correspondent that the proposal to shift the private bus stand to this land was mooted by her as Madikeri is becoming too congested for traffic due to increase in the number of busses and vehicles.

Mrs. Chandrakala also stated that the team paid a visit to Forestry college at Ponnampet . A hostel for girls will come up in the college premises at a cost of rupees 70 lakhs, she said. NABARD has already sanctioned the amount. She also informed that the revenue minister Mr.Manjunath has agreed to sanction 100 acres of land to the college in south Kodagu to continue research work.
