POLICE TRAINEE COMMITS SUICIDE;

A police trainee,M.J.Basaiah, 24 committed suicide here yesterday by consuming poison.

A horse rider found Basaiah fighting for life in Golf grounds after consuming poison. He was later shifted to hospital, where he died.

Disappointment in love is said to be the reason for the extreme act.

REJUVENATION PLAN FOR COFFEE SOCIETY;

The newly elected body of Coorg Coffee Growers Co operative society has said that it is committed to revive the sinking financial status of the society.

The special meeting called to find ways to wriggle out from the problems was chaired by president Mr.M.B.Devaiah. The members spat fire, as politicians and people’s representatives, who were invited to attend, did not turn up.

The meeting however resolved to sell the properties of the society like a coffee curing works and land, if need be. It was also decided to start agriculture based trade, cement etc.

FIVE ARRESTED FOR RAPE ATTEMPT;

Police arrested five gun totting youth who attempted top rape a fory year old lady near Nanjarayapatna, yesterday.

According to police, one Ramesh, 28 way laid a lady and attempted to molest her in a secluded road. The lady biot his hand and escaped. The villagers who arrived at the spot on hearing her screaming caught hold of Ramesh and tied him to a tree. Soon, four of his friends arrived at the spot in a jeep with guns and threatened the villagers to shoot. Before the situation would turn to worst, Kushalnagar police arrived on the spot and arrested all the five accused and seized the jeep and weapons.

The accused are remanded to judicial custody for fifteen days.

HEGGADE SAMAJ IGNOREED;

MLC Mr.Arun Machaiah yesterday regretted that the government has ignore Heggade samaj and did not include its member in Kodava Academy.

Addressing the gathering at Balugody at Virajpet taluk after performing Bhoomi pooja for the new building of the Samaj, Mr.Arun machaiah said that Heggade samaj is next largest community after Kodavas in Kodagu who speak Kodava language. He assured that he will urge the government to include a member from their community into Kodava Academy.
