PRESS CLUB OFFICE BEARERS

Mr. H.T.Anil, Reporter “Kannada Prabha” and “Udaya TV has been unanimously elected as the new president of Madikeri Press Club. Mr. Jeevan Chinnappa, the outgoing president announced the new office bearers in the General Body meeting held here. V.J.Narendra and Mahesh Nachaiah have been elected as the vice presidents and Anchemane Sudhi as the General Secretary. M.K.Aruna and C.N.Sunil Kumar have been elected as secretaries and Jagadish Belliappa as the treasurer. The directors are: K.K.Shashidhar, G.Rajendra, Addanda Cariappa, B.G.Ananthashayana, Ganesh Kumar, G.Chidvilas, U.M.Pooviah and Ajjamada Kuttappa.

OKKALIGA CONFERENCE

Mr. H.D.Revanna has inaugurated the Okkaliga Gowda Conference held at Somwarpet Okkaliga Kalyana Mantap..He showed his special interest in the overall development of Kodagu. Rs.20 crores has been released for the development of Roads in Somwarpet thaluk, he recalled. A total of Rs.34 crores has been released for the district, he added. He regretted the missing of ministers hip to the Somwarpet M.L.A Mr. B.A Jeevijaya who deserves the cabinet post itself. Although the Okkaliga Gowdas occupy the major population in the state the caste background will not be used in the political field, he clarified. The Somwarpet-Subramanya Road will be inaugurated soon, he added. Mr. B.A .Jeevijaya released the souvenir. M.L.A Mr. K.G.Bopaiah, the international Kabaddi expert Mr. B.C.Ramesh, the Ex. M.L.A Mr. A.manju were present. Mr. A.R.Muthanna, the president of the Okkaligara Gowda Association presided over the function.

TUSKER CAPTURED

The tusker which had killed three persons easrlier was tranquilised and caught at Hampapur, the Kodagu-Hassan border area.Dr.Nagaraju, Dr.Chittiappa and shooter Venkatesh succeeded in the venture with the help of the forest department's tamed elephants.The killer giant tried to attack the tamed elephants with his other three mates. During the venture Arjun, the forest department's best award elephant sustained injuries. The capture was conducted at at the forest reserve forest.The team was led by Shekar, Munegowda,Jamadar, Ravi, Mandanna, the D.F.O Rangegowda and the conservator Dr. Ravindran. The captured elehant willl be shifted to Nagarhole wild life area.
