NELLAMAKKADA CLINCHES BIDDANDA CUP;Koothanda accepts defeat with 3 – 0The Nellamakkada family team humbled the aggressive players of Kuthanda family by scoring 3 goals against nil. Thousands of sports lovers from all over the district and elsewhere watched with bated breath the finals of the twenty day Biddanda Cup hockey finals today. Captain of the Nellamakkada team, Mr.Saji Nanaiah received the cash prize of rupees eigteen thousand and the trophy from mr.Jain representing State Bank of India. Runners up Kuthanda team captain Suresh received the cash prize of rupees nine thousand and the trophy from Mrs.Jain. Rtd.Highcourt justice Mr.Palekanda Bopanna, Mrs.Biddanda Dotty Chinnappa, technical patron Mr.Mohan Aiyappa, host emeritus Mr.Pandanda M.Kuttappa and others distributed prizes. Kalianda Sampa is awarded Best Full back.Man of series,Nellamakkada Sanki Poovanna. Best goal keeper, Konerira Tinu Poovaiah. Best half Back, Palanganda Ajay. Best Farward, Alemada Cheeyanna. More number of goals, Nellamakkada Sachin- 12 goals. Best team, Sullimada. Mr.Pandanda Kuttappa picked the name of the winner who predicted the correct name of the family which one, in response to a competition organized by Shakthi kannada daily. Total 221 teams took part in the twenty day festival. Lt.General B.C.nanda, Major B.A.Nanjappa were on the dais Winners Nellamakkada Runners Koothanda DAUGHTER IN LAW SHOT DEAD;In a bizarre incident reported from South Kodagu, a father inlaw shot dead his young daughter in law for a reason yet to be analysed. Mayanamada Cariappa reportedly opened fire at Shobha alias Kasturi, 25 from behind at his house yesterday evening at T.Shettigeri. She sprawled on the floor in a pool of blood. Tension prevailed in the town hours after the incident. Hundreds of peopkle gathered before the house and demanded the arrival of Tahasildar and accused the killing as a dowry attack. They stated that the deceased Shobha had long before complained to police about the harassment by the family members. However police took no action. Srimangala police arrested the accused, his wife Parvathy and son Binnu, late night. 81 IN APMC FRAY;The three APMCs in the district have 81 candidates in the fray with two reserve candidates declared elected. About 80 candidates withdrew from contesting yesterday. The election will be held on this 29th. MINI VIDHANA SOUDHA IN APMC PREMISES;The deputy commissioner has sent a proposal to government to construct Mini Vidhana soudha in the present APMC premise. The latest proposal comes after several proposals from the previous DCs remain untouched. The district administration has marked a land near Golf Grounds where the the APMC activity would be shifted to. |
