HOCKEY FEVER TOUCHES SUMMIT ;

Kuthanda to wrestle with Nellamakkada;

Verbal fights, blame games and warning cards marked the semifinals of Biddanda Cu Hockey Festival here today. Amidst heat and dust Nellamakkada and Koothanda teams stepped towards finals to be played on fifth.

Tension broke as Palanganda team had to succumb to Nellamakkada for 2 – 1 in the morning. The empires were freely abused and pushed around, as the Palanganda team having state and national players was defeated. National player Amar Aiyamma and state player Ajay Aiyappa played for the team.

The afternoon’s tournament between Anjaparavada and Kuthanda was not different. Kuthanda won against Anjaparavanda by 2 – 1.

The Kuthanda team came out of the ground protesting against the first goal Anjaparavanda took against them. Hot debates and shouting from the crowds wasted much time till the team returned to the ground. However the aggressive goal against Anjaparavanda from Kuthanda again invited trouble. The empires were humiliated again with accusations. However, they stuck to their guns till the teams returned to play. Kuthanda hit the winning goal in the second half and established its supremacy against the Anjaparavanda team, which had National coach and champion Mr.A.B.Subbaiah as its goalkeeper. The Kuthanda team had University player Shilpa Bopaiah as its goal keeper. Former international player Poonacha was also in Kuthanda team.
