FIVE LAKH ROBBED;Two persons riding a motorbike were way laid and robbed of rupees five lakh, according to police. The incident occurred at Ravandur near Periyapatna, yesterday. The Ravandur VSSN secretary was returning with a friend after drawing rupees five lakh from MDCC bank. Two unknown persons came in a Yamaha bike from the opposite direction and threw chilly powder on the faces of the duo in running position. As the two fell on the ground, the miscreants disappeared with the booty. HOT DEBATE AT CMC;The City Municipal Council meeting chaired by the administrator Mr.P.Subramanyam in the presence of the local MLA Mr.K.G.Bopaiah yesterday witnessed hot debates. The commissioner Ramdas and engineers came under heavy verbal attack by the members who alleged that no development works are being taken up or any other problems of the town are being attended to. Meeting turned hot as a member used unparliamentary word against an engineer. The members stood up in anger as the commissioner refused to give account for the expenditures running to a crore. His assurance to submit the account in the next meeting was turned down as he is already transferred. MLA Bopaiah intervened and directed Mr.Ramdas to produce details in three days time. The members took strong objection as the commissioner said that they require 4.5 lakh for repairing the toy train at Rajas seat. They suggested that the Train be handed over to the tourism department, which is agreed to. The meeting decided to build a shopping complex in the town at a cost of rupees 1.51 crore. It also dealt with other subjects like approving tender for garbage lifting, de silting etc. BIKE LIFTERS ARRESTED;Police arrested two persons and seized four motor bikes stolen from different districts. DySP Mr.Sundar Raj told in a press conference that Danny of Kerala and Subash from Kottayam were stealing two wheelers from Kodagu, Mangalore and other districts. The had stolen around six bikes and were caught by Madikeri police yesterday. |
