GOVERNMENT TO REHABILITATE TRIBES;The district in charge minister Mr.Alangur Srinivas said that the Government is serious about shifting tribes from forests in Nagarahole National Park. Addressing scribes here yesterday he said that mediators are thwarting the efforts by the government to rehabilitate tribes from the forests and they are being misused. He alleged that the tribes are made to smuggle wood and involved in other illegal activities on the advice of the middlemen who do not want them to be shifted. However the government is determined to shift them, he said. He also informed that the government will look into rehabilitating forest encroachers who have built houses in forest areas. Meanwhile he asserted that he is bent to develop Kodagu and not interested in politics. His reaction came as few former congress leaders had remarked that the district in charge minister is playing politics. He also disclosed that rupees 34 lakhs from the Chief ministers fund was released to take up road repair, bridge repair and other essential works before monsoon in Kodagu. He also promised to fill the vacant police posts in the district by month end. Earlier addressing a meeting at Somwarpet, the minister applauded the local MLA Mr.B.A.Jivijaya and said that he is a rare politician who approaches him only to discuss development and never to do personal favors like transfer etc. WOOD AUCTION FETCHES Rs.1.23;The auctions held at timber depots at Anekadu and Kushalnagar has fetched a profit of rupees 1,23,18,000 accoeding to reports. The forest department said that the two-day auction held on 10 and 11 June at two places brought them the above income. Around 43 bidders from all over the state took part in the auction. HEBBAR INAUGURATES ROATRY;Rotary governor Mr.A.S.N.Hebbar inaugurated the provisional club of Rotary Misty Hills at Madikeri, yesterday. He handed over pins to the charter president Mr.B.G.Anantha Shayana and handed over kits to 53 new members. Rotarians Sharavanan, Vishwas and Pritvi Madaiah spoke on the occasion. |
