RAJIV GANDHI AWARD FOR COORG WILDLIFE SOCIETY;The Coorg Wild Life society has earned Rajiv Gandhi award for Environment. Announcing this in a press conference, president of the Society Tetd. Col Muthanna said that the governor of Karnataka Mr.Chaturvedi on this 5th distributed the award. The award includes a cirificate and a cash of rupees one lakh. Muthanna explained that the activities relating to protection of environment, wildlife and growing more trees by the Wild Life Society got recognized by the Rajivgandhi foundation. KODAVA PROGRAMME ON DD;The Doordarshan will broadcast a Kodava programme on this 18th at 5.30 P.M. A panel including Research expert M.G.Nagaraj, journalist B.G.Anantha Shayana and former chairman of the Kodava Academy, Mr.Bacharaniyanda Appanna will discuss the life and works of littérateur, late Sri. V.S.Ramakrishna , who passed away recently. He has authored books in three languagea, English, Kodava and Kannada and mastered Hindi. Mrs.Jaya Appanna has anchored the show. PROTEST WALK AGAINST HYDEL PROJECT;The members of the Kavery Sene, led by Mr.Ravi Chengappa held a protest march from Abbi falls to Madikeri protesting against the proposed hydel project. Retd. General B.C.Nanda flagged the protest from Abbi Falls. The protestors including villagers from around Abbi Falls held a meeting at Cauvery Kalakshetra. Presiding over the meeting, advocate Mr.C.B.Appachu criticized the government’s move in scheming mini hydel project. Another speaker Maletira Subramani cautioned the government that it will have to face state level protests if it does not withdraw all the mini hydel projects in Kodagu. COFFEE BOARD HOLDS MEETING;Coffee Board has held a high level meeting at Bangalore to discuss about the special package announced by the government. The meeting chaired by the board chairman Mr.Krishna Rao included officials from Nationalised Banks and Co operative sectors. The sources said that the banks have agreed to bear their share of 95.70 crores out of the 287 crore package announced by the central minister Mr.P.Chidambaram. Around twenty six thousand planters will be benefited through this package. GANJA IN THE YARD;Town police arrested a person growing Ganja plant in his yard, yesterday. One Balakrishna was found growing Ganja in front of his house at Madikeri. He had covered the plants with polythene sheets. A case is registered and the plants are seized. |
