URS BHAVAN CONSTRUCTION STAYED;

The court stays the Urs bhavan being built at the behest of the government at Madikeri.

The sources said that the Bhavan being built at a cost of rupees 10 lakh in the first phase is stayed by the court on receiving complaint from the sportsmen.

The foundation works are going on in the school ground, adjacent to district statdium.

The sports men of Kodagu had been opposing the construction as it spoils the image of the stadium and the place gets commercialized.

As a contrary, the district administration is continuing the work inspite of the high courts stay. The newly appointed deputy commissioner Mr.Subodh Yadav is holding a special meeting to discuss the issue.

OFFICIALS URGED TO SOLVE PROBLEMS;

The Deputy commissioner Mr.Subodh Yadav has urged the officials to listen to the public grievances and solve their problems on priority.

Addressing the grievances meeting here in the old assembly hall, the DC said that the erring officials would have to face action.

The new DC went hammer and tongs against the officials who were absent in the meeting and ordered to issue notice to them. He did not allow subordinate officials to submit report or give explanations.

Delay in revenue matters, bad roads, drinking water problem, lack of conveyance were some of the main grievances heard by the DC. He assured the people of taking action.

SOIL RESEARCH IN A REMOTE VILLAGE;

Koothi is a very remote village in Kodagu deprived of basic facilities like proper roads and transportation. There are houses with no telephone and electricity connection till today. But the name of the village is sighted in website!

Yes, the central soil research center has chosen Koothi in Karnataka as the only place for soil research. The experts are working in the village since two years to test the contents and fertility of the soil.

Addressing the press conference at Somwarpet, Scientist Dr.Balakrishna Gowda of Bangalore University disclosed that research on soil is being taking place in Karnataka, Kerala and Himalayan regions. Koothi is chosen for research after observing its climatic conditions, he said. He said that the research out come would be taken as a guide line for agriculturists.
