TORRENTIAL RAIN CAUSES SIX CRORE DAMAGE;

Torrential rain in Kodagu has so far caused an estimated loss upto 6.37 crores, according to the Deputy Commissioner Mr.Subodh yadav.

The press note from the DCs office said that Madikeri taluk has incurred a loss of rupees 1.39 crores, Somwarpet rs.2.19 crores and Virajpet Rs.2.78 crores.

The loss includes damage to houses and buildings, roads and electric poles.

Though the battering speed of wind, which had caused huge damage, is decreased today, rain continues to lash the district. Reports of tree falling and landslides have been arriving at the flood combat office in DC office premises.

Pushpagiri, the second highest mountain in the district recorded 14 inches of rainfall, yesterday.

The district administration has geared up rehabilitation work and clearing the roads.

LIFER FOR MURDERER;

The district and sessions court gave lifer to a husband who killed his wife, yesterday.

N.M.Shivram of Nidyamale is given lifer as he killed his wife Kusumavathi on 3.7.2000 at his house. He did her to death with a baton and a billhook as he suspected her fidelity.

LEN TO MALASIA;

The 'penalty corner specialist', Mr.Len Aiyappa is selected to play league hockey at Malasia.

Hailing from Kodagu, Aiyappa is known for making highest goals. He has played at Malasia three times, earlier.

100 gm STONE IN KIDNEY!

The doctors at Mysore removed a kidney stone weighing 100 grams from a person hailing from Virajpet.

Alappira K.Madaiah, ex service man and a retired bus driver from Bilugunda near Virajpet displayed the stone measuring 1.4 inches in thickness and 6 centimeter in length.

He said that a doctor at Mysore Dr.prabhu removed the stone from his kidney and saved his life.
