RAIN FURY TARGETS KODAGU;The incessant rainfall since two days has been hampering life in many parts of the district. Reports of houses being collapsed and roads being blocked are increasing by evening. Bhagamandala is inundated with water overflowing. The confluence of Cauvery is on the raise with the water covering unto the steps of Bhagandeshwara temple. Traffic and movement of people is hit in the area. Telephone and electricity links are hampered at Bhagamandala and Talacauvery. Paddy fields around Madikeri and Virajpet taluk are marooned. Bhagamandala has registered 5 inches of rain in 24 hours. Madikeri 4.07 inches. Talacauvery 6.52 inches. Somwarpet 4.25 inches. Kodlipet 3.50 inches and Sampaje 4.21 inches. The chief executive officer of Zilla Panchayath, Mr.Sundar Naik told this correspondent that he will hold a meeting with the officials tomorrow and decide about declaring holiday to schools. HEAVY DOWNPOUR IN KODAGUThe heavy downpour of rain fall disrupted normal life in Kodagu especially in Madikeri town. At Mangaladevi Nagasr, Madikeri when the press photographers were clicking,, they directly watched the falling of the entire earthen edge from the top of the roadside which was slowly sliding towards the houses situated nearby place. As the eyewitnesses watching, the whole earthen portion fel on the houses and one of the houses was completely covered and was destroyed under the eroded soil. Fortunately during the incident the housewife Nalini accompanied her son to the nearby barbershop for haircutting and the family survived, which is a bless in disguise for them. Even, the tied up dog was also survived without any harm. However, the valuable things are completely destroyed and the tenant resident of the collapsed house Vasu who is an employee in Kamadhenu petrol bunk, Madikeri has to search another house and also he has to purchase all the things for his family maintenance. The house owner Raju , who is an employee in the Madikeri Court is worried about the loss and he has to completely rebuild the structure. Although the Madikeri town police SI Venkataramappa rushed to the spot with police personnel, he could not do anything to stop the erosion and all the public were watching the scene helplessly. The downpour of rain is causing wilt diseases to coffee, pepper and ginger.. Which has worried the growers, here..
