DC GIVES TARGET TO CLEAR RECORDS;The Deputy Commissioner Mr.Subodh Yadav has instructed the revenue department to update erroneous records. He has told them to complete the work in thirty days and trace the faults by this month end. He held a special meeting to discuss the dispute between forest and revenue departments over allotment of lands. About 4900 acres at Virajrpet taluk and 19000 acres at Somwarpet taluk need to be resurveyed and their records re verified. Kodagu is facing a typical problem with forest and revenue departments giving two opinions about a property lying on forestland. The revenue department had long ago issued land records to many dwellers who had built houses in forest areas and settled. But the forest department has been raising objection to their dwelling of late and is trying to vacate them. Government after government promised people of Kodagu to solve the problem and failed to arrive at a consensus. Attempts to remove dwellings by forest department keep continuing. Protests against it have become a routine. However, DC is trying to strike a solution now. LAKHS WORTH LIQUOR SEIZED;The excise department has seized illicit liquor worth rupees five lakh from a vehicle and a Bar and restaurant and arrested four persons at Kushalnagar. The department officials raided a Bar at Kushalnagar and found 17 cases of illicit liquor stored with the permitted ones. While two persons were arrested here, yesterday, two others were arrested in a car transporting illicit liquor near Kudige. Acting on the clue revealed by the Bar owners who were arrested, officials seized the car and recovered two cases of liquor. The officials suspect a big illicit liquor racket. Investigations are on. SHOPS DEMOLISHED AT GONICOPPAL;The Mandal Panchayath Gonicoppal with the police assistance today demolished shops illegally built in the market area. Tension mounted in the town since morning as more than fifty cops led by DySP mr. Sreekanta arrived at the spot with excavators and labourers to remove the dwellings. Nagarika Vedike, led by one Krishna Kumar staged strong protests and slept on the ground to obstruct demolition. Some of the members hung on to shop roofs. However, police arrested Krishna Kumar, Philipose Mathew and few others to ease the work and released them later. Protestors abused the Panchayath president Mr.B.D.Mukunda and team. The active member of the panchyath mr.B.N.Prakash told this correspondent that the merchants in the market yard, obstructing the mobile traders who should have made use of the place on shandy days, illegally built the shops. He said that the Panchayath has a forty lakh project to build a huge market complex . Around 53 shops were demolished by the Panchayath in a dawn to dusk operation. |
