LITERACY PROGRAMME GRANT WITH HELD;

Around rupees 28 lakhs granted for Cauvery Saksharatha programme in the district was with held due to technical reasons, hampering the literacy programme.

According to sources, nodal centers in the district have failed to submit audit report, resulting in money block. The district so far has spent rupees 1.08 crores for literacy programme commencing from 2002. The government intends to achieve 85%literacy by 2007.

Meanwhile, though the government boasts of success in literacy programmes in the district, Kodagu has about 47 illiterate peoples representatives ruling Mandal Panchayaths!

The district administration is organizing a six months course to teach reading and writing skills to the representatives, shortly.

The officials of the Sakshara Cauvery told this correspondent that the government has many schemes to bring literacy. The success of it depends upon the fund it releases and the interest the Nodal officials take.

Kodagu has 18 Nodal centers and 117 learning centers.

He is an unemployed, lottery maniac. A resident of Periyapatna, Mohan was living with his in laws at Valnur village near Kushalnagar along with his wife.

His wife sold a tree in front of their house and kept it with her. Mohan started to harass her, as she did not spare money with him. A complaint was lodged against him. Police took written assurances.

However, he had a big fight with her day before yesterday, again demanding money. However, as his wife Gita and father inlaw set out to work yesterday, mohan demolished the house and damaged articles.

A complaint is lodged against them in the police station. Search is on to nab the escaped Mohan.

MURDER ACCUSED ARRESTED;

Bangalore police arrested at Somwarpet a murder accused wanted in a case at Bangalore.

An auto driver Raghu, 40 was arrested from his relatives house.

He had allegedly killed a lady in a lodge at Hosur on this 18th and disappeared from the spot. The 35 year old lady, said to be his lover was brutally done to death by him.
