UNDERTRIAL COMMITTS SUICIDE;

A lady undertrial at madikeri prison hung herself to death at district prison yesterday.

Gita, 26, facing an attempt to murder charge at the prison was found hanging from the door panel, using her vale.

The jail superintendent Mr.Patil told that she was mentally unstable. Gita, hailing from Heggala village in Kodagu was unmarried and was facing a murder charge. However, she gave birth inside the prison at Mysore 1.5 month ago. She was noticed trying to kill the baby on several occasions. Even yesterday she threw the baby on the floor. Her roommates took the baby out and she hung herself before they came.

However, she died under mysterious circumstance as her body, though tied from the panel was in a seated position on the floor.

Autopsy was conducted at the district hospital. Ashwini hospital here has taken the orphan child to custody.

USA awards doctor from Kodagu;

The society of laparondoscopic surgeons of USA has presented the annual award of resident Achievement Award to Dr.Kokkalera Uthaiah Ponnappa, M.D.

Dr.Uthaih along with his another r surgeon Ali Ghelli had presented a paper at the meeting of socity of AGESFL, Florida on the topic of laproscopic assisted surgery on colon, pancreas, spleen and liver diseases.

He is the Son of late dr.Kokkalera Ponnappa, professor of pathology, UAS, bangalore. His two video presentations have been accepted for the 14th international congress of the Laporoscopic surgeons to be held in September in California. He has been invited for presentation of Laporoscopic surgeons meet in South Africa during August.
