PLANTERS MEET CENTRAL MINISTER;The coffee growers of Somwarpet taluk met the central commerce minister Mr.Kamalnath recently at Somwarpet and submitted a memorandum. The growers’ committee president Mr.B.M.Suresh told that they have briefed the minister about the problems being faced by the growers and told him that the recently declared SCTL scheme is not helpful to all. They have also appealed bring uniformed policy about waiving of loans since 1999, reducing the rate of interest to nine percent. Mr.Suresh said that the minister has shown interest to change the policies. TIBETANS CELEBRATE BIRTHDAY;The Tibetans at Bylakuppe rehabilitation center celebrated birthday of Tibetan guru, Dalai Lama, yesterday. Inaugurating a public meeting at a palace at Bylakuppe, superintendent of police, Mr.Prpulla Kumar of Mysore told that Tibetan have a great future. The representatives of government in excile distributed prizes to the winners of many competitions. A Cd on Dal;ai Lama was unveiled on this occasion. TEMPLE BURGLED;Close on the heels of three temples being burgled at Ponnampet, one more temple was burgled yesterday night. According to police, culprits broke into the temple of Aiyapa by making a hole in the wall and broke open the hundie. Since two other temples were broken earlier, cash containers of Ganesha and Subrahmanya were also stored in the same temple for safety. The thieves broke open all the containers and made away with cash. |
