150 CRORES TO TACKLE ELEPHANT MENACE;

Forest minister Mr.Gurupadappa has said that the government will spend rupees 150 crores to tackle elephant menace.

His announcement came in the form of reply to a query raised by local MLA Mr.K.G.bopaiah in the sessions. Bopaiah had demanded immediate action against the menace and also to increase the compensation amount to the families of the deceased and those who incur loss.

The minister has reportedly stated that he will look into the demand. The department has already sent a proposal of rupees twenty crores to dig trenches as a first step, he informed.

BAIL CANCELLED;

The session’s judge here has cancelled the bail being granted to two-murder accused that were let out earlier.

The main accused in the murder of one Madappa at Madikeri a year ago, Subash and his accomplice M.K.Janaka were out of jail with the pretext of medical reasons. However, Madappa has allegedly threatened the family of the deceased after coming out of the jail and a complaint was lodged in this regard. Since the accused breached the conditions of the court the judge cancelled their bail and sent them to judicial custody.

AYODHYA ATTACK; PROTESTS IN KODAGU

The terrorist’s attack at Ayodhya echoed in the district today with Hindu organizations conducting protests in all the three talukas.

The BJP, Bhajrangadal and VHP took out procession at Madikeri, Virajpet and Somwarpet and submitted memorandum to the concerned revenue officials. The BJP district president Mr.S.G.Medappa, VHP president Mr.K.S.Devaiah have demanded security to Hindu worship places and urged the resignation of central and UP governments.

ROSE WOOD SEIZED;

The district crime branch police have seized rupees 11.5 lakh worth rosewood in two incidents and registered a case against one.

According to them, they have seized logs of rosewood tree loaded in a lorry at Aikola village. The loaded lorry was caught in a swampy area where the culprits had abandoned it. In another incident, five billets of rose wood were seized from an estate at Kutta and a case was booked against one Belliappa.
