EXCISE DEPARTMENT AUCTIONS VEHICLES WORTH 10 LAKH;

The district excise department here has auctioned seized vehicles worth rupees ten lakh. But the department’s transparency in auctioning is questioned by the public who suspect under hand dealing.

The department has auctioned 32 vehicles including lorries just for rupees ten lakh giving room for suspicion.

According to their statistics, a mini lorry was auctioned at rupees 56 thousand, a Maruthi van for rupees 12 thousand, a Maruthi 800 for rupees 11 thousand, a jeep for rupees 7 thousand, an autoriksahw for rupees 6 thousand and a bike for rupees one thousand!

People suspect that the seized vehicles were auctioned with an understanding incurring loss to the government exchequer. However, the excise deputy commissioner told this correspondent that auction was held according to the guidelines of the government.

PROTEST AGAINST PRINCIPAL;

The students of government PU College Kushalnagar held a protest against the principal today.

They alleged that a co student was mislead by him regarding a re exam.

According to them, a second year PU student was asked to appear for the exam for one subject, which she had lost. She appeared to write for the exam by paying the fee. However at the time of the exam she was told that she has lost two subjects. Recovering from the shock she said that the principal himself had told that she has lost only one subject and taken fee for the purpose. Though she said that she would write both the subjects, he did not allow her to do so, giving technical reasons.

The protesting students told that her career is hit for a year due to the negligence and audacity of the principal. They requested the department to find a solution.

Mr.Kuttanna was earlier serving as the district agriculture assistant director.

Mr.Nellira Poonacha has been elected as the secretary, Mr.C.A.Ponnappa as the vice president, Mr.P.M.Ganapathy as the joint secretary.Mr.M.N.Ramesh as the treasurer.

DECISION AGAINST BARAPOLE HYDEL PROJECT;

The Birunani Gram panchayath has taken a decision not to permit Barapole hydel project at any cost.

In a meeting held at Birunani yesterday, the members passed a unanimous decision not to allow the mini hydel project to come up.

The decision was taken as large scale opposition from the public was found regarding the project.

The government had Okayed the project to come up and survey work was also done before the protest began.
