CONGRESS SET TO FORM ZILLA PANCHAYATH ;

The district congress is all set to hold power in Zilla panchayath and Somwarpet taluk panchayath where it has majority.

President of the district congress committee Veen Achaiah told this correspondent that the party that has won 15 seats would occupy the chair in Zilla pancgayath by including a rebel candidate who won from Hebbale constituency. BJP, which has won 10 seats, has decided to sit in the opposition. JDS has made its entry by winning four seats.

BJP district president S.G.Medappa and local MLA K.G.Bopaiah told this correspondent that they wish to sit in ZP as respectful opposition.

They said that the debacle for the party in losing prominent seats at Somwarpet and Virajpet taluk was due to the fight between congress and JDs. If you take the total number of votes polled, BJP has improved in winning the confidence of the people by and large, compared to last election they said.

Meanwhile, BJP has absolute majority to form Taluk Panchayath at Madikeri taluk with 9 out of eleven seats to its credit. Whereas its trailing behind congress with one seat less with 8 to 9 in Virajpet taluk. JDs has snatched 2 seats in Virajpet TP and it will form a deciding factor.

MLC Arun Machaiah who agreed that they could not get the expected result for JDs, said that it is only 21 days after he joined JDs and he will do better in the next elections. However his party fetched 2 TP and 2 ZP seats. He added that compared to total votes polled to his party, they have given tough competition to congress. His candidates lost in few places .

Former minister Suma Vasanth told that JDs has stooped to very low level by enticing the voters with money and arrack in Virajpet taluk. It has spoiled the results, she commented. Former minister M.M.Nanaiah told that congress has some weakness which has to be tackled., His comment came as the party failed utterly at madikeri taluk. Another former minister T.John opined that voters know which party they have to choose.

MLA B.A.Jivijaya told that the debacle in the congress is the leaders here think how to see that their own members could be defeated. Though the congress members in his taluk, including his son won in majority, his comments came as lots of anti party work was done by the leaders, according to him.

The district youth congress president B.G.Arun Kumar, who lost in Hebbale constituency alleged that he became the scape goat between K.P.Chandrakala and B.A.Jivijaya who were struggling to pump their candidates into the election. A rebel candidate won against Arun Kumar in the constituency.

While B.A.Vijaya stated that the former president of the ZP, K.P.Chandrakala does not desrve a place in the party, Chandrakala in turn told that the party is losing stand due to the politics being played by B.A.Jivijaya.
