COUNTING GOES ON SMOOTHLY; CONGRESS ESTABLISHES SUPREMACY;

The congress shot to top position in the district by winning 14 seats out of 29 in the Zilla Panchayath and 26 out of 49 in Taluk panchayath posts.

The counting conducted in three places of the district was over by eight and without any untoward incidents. However, the result of napoklu constituency where a BJP candidate has won is awaited due to technical snag.

BJP won 6 ZP seats out of 7 at Madikeri, humbling Congress with one seat. While Somwarpet saw, congress-winning 7 seats against BJPs one seat. Even at Virajpet BJP got only 3 ZP seats against 6 of congress. JDS made its entry with 5 TP seats and 4 ZP seats.

The results are:

RE POLLING PEACEFUL IN TWO CONSTITUENCIES;

Madikeri December 27, 2005

Re polling held at Gopalpur and Kodlipet yesterday went off peacefully.

Gopalpur registered 69.83 % and Kodlipet registered a 76.4% polling.

Re election was held as a clerk committed blunder by including part of these constituencies to other constituency during the election held on 19th.

COUNTING BEGINS;

Counting in three taluk centres of Kodagu began today at 8 a.m.

Congress and BJP are facing competition in many constituencies while JDs is in lead only at one constituency, by 12 noon.

Meanwhile the deputy commissioner Subodh yadav has declared two days prohibitory order in the district from today under section 144 ipc.

HOME STAY COMES UNDER TAXATION;

Home stay facilities in the district are brought under taxation and the Commercial tax officer has ordered the owners to get it registered.

DCTO Nalinakshi Gowda has said in a circular that the Home Stay attracting tourists in Kodagu should register by paying rupees 250 registration charge and rupees one thousand as deposit. Those who make more business should pay entertainment tax between four and 12 percent tax.

Gowda has cautioned that the unregistered Home Stays could pose problems some day and will not get protection from the law.
