REPOLLING ORDERED IN A POLLING CENTRE

Madikeri Dec. 23 A complication created headache to the Distrct Election officer cum Deputy Commissioner. The 1024 voters who have voted in the Polling Booth No.6 at Somwarpet thaluk have wrongly voted to the different Zilla Panchayath constituency due to the official fault committed in the Thaluk Thahasildar office, Somwarpet. Overlooking the gazette publication insertion of Doddabilaha,Lakkehanalu, Chennapura and kiru Bilaha villages to the Goapalapura Zilla Panchayath constituency, a lady clerk in the thaluk office had included these villages in kodlipet Zilla Panchayath list. Thus, the villagers have unknowingly voted to kodlipet constituency.

The congress candidate Rajamma in the Gopalapura constituency has given written complaint to the District election Officer Subodh Yadav and demanded the repoll in the No.26 poll booth. The Election officer and D.C. Subodh Yadava after detail discussions ordered for repoll in the polling booth No.6 on the 26th December. Both Z.P. and T.P. constituencies will go to repoll. An enquiry is ordered to give a report about the mishandling of the records. Observing the report necessary action will be taken against the concerned persons- disclosed the Deputy commissioner to “The Times of India”.

RELAXATION TO DISABLED

Madikeri Dec. 23 “Swastha” a school run by the Coorg foundation for the upliftment and for the purpose of providing education to the handicaps and the mentally retarded students celebrated second anniversary at Sunticoppa near here. All the students enthusiastically participated in various cultural activities with he perfect training by the teachers.

Many students danced, participated in traditional and folk dance, The function was inaugurated by B.A.Jeevijaya, the Somwarpet thaluk M..L.A. While speaking, he disclosed the release of Rs. 4.89 crores to Kodagu by the State Govt. towards rural cleanliness programme. V.Doreswamy, the Deputy Director for District women and child welfare department had presided over the function. He analaysed a reason for the physical and mental retardness of the children and told, the marriages between the relations causes bad affect on the born children. The institution superintendent Ganga Chengappa read the report. Coorg Foundation president Artun Monnappa and others present.

CONSUMERS FORUM JUDGEMENT AGAINST LIC

Madikeri Dec. 23 The consumers’ forum, Kodagu has passed a judgment favouring the release of LIC amount of Rs. Fifty thousand along with 12% interest and to pay the expenditure of Rs. One thousand incurred by the complainant.

In this peculiar case the LIC holder H.P. Muniappa of Madikeri died due to heart attack. When his wife and nominee Ishwari claimed the amount from the LIC, they refused to pay the amount.. They gave reason that the LIC holder H.C. Muniappa was suffering from diabetes. However It was not mentioned in his LIC policy proposal. So, the company is not responsible to pay the amount the LIC advocate argued..

Overruling this the consumers forum ordered to pay the policy amount along with the interest and stated that there is no link to the diabetes and the heart attack .The policy holder had died due to heart attack .The company is liable to release the amount.

The forum chairman M.R.Devappa and members K.S.Prasad and Smt. A.S.Hemalatha heard the appeal.

EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS

Madikeri Dec.23 The Kodagu wing of Bhrathiya Vidya Bhavan has organised the exhibition of special paintings of famous artist H.N.Suresh. Dr. B.M.Hegde, the president of Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Mangalore division has inaugurated . The present generation is loosing interest in the study of historical and cultural matters and the students should be awokened- opined Dr. Hegde.

N.Ramanujam, the Karnataka Bharahtiya Vidya Bhavan chairman and H.N.Suresh, the artists have spoken .K.P.Muthappa, the Kodagu wing president welcomed. Nayana Kashyap compered the programme.

PRESS NOT ALLOWED TO COUNTING CENTRES

Madikeri Dec.. 23 Usually, the press persons were allowed to the counting centres during election countings even in the General elections also. But, this time, the State Election Commission has strictly banned the entry of press people inside the counting hall. The commission has sent orders to the concerned Deputy Commissioners cum District Election officers not to allow the journalists inside the counting hall. This was confirmed through a circular sent by the Kodagu Election officer to the kodagu District Information officer.
