RESERVATION FOR PRESIDENTS;

The government has announced reservation for the posts of presidents and vice presidents in taluk panchayaths.

The latest order comes with only few days left for the elections to be held for the Taluk and Gram Panchayaths.

The presidents post is reserved for the Schedule caste, women and backward class (B) candidates. Both the posts of president and vice president will not be given to the candidates belonging to same category. Categories will be selected based on the population.

Among the 176 total taluk panchayaths in the state, the women will represent 60. 32 by Schedule caste, 47 by backward class A, 12 by backward class B and 70 by general candidates. Government has sought objections if any about the reservation within fifteen days.

LESS SHADE INVITES STEM BORER;

The coffee board has cautioned coffee planters that less shade in the estate invites stem borer.

They have advised the planters in a communiqué that the estates with less shade are suffering from Stem borer attack.

The planters are requested to fetch shade trees from social forestry department and plant them in their estates to avoid future damage.

Stem Borers keep spreading from one estate to another. Once it enters a coffee plant, replanting is the only alternative resulting in huge loss.

HOUSE BURGLED;

Jewelry worth rupees forty five thousand was stolen from a house at Virajpet.

According to police, miscreants broke into the house of one kaverappa at virajpet and made away with jewelry.

It was complained that miscreants between 3rd and 13th of this month broke the locked.

Police have registered a case.

ATTEMPT TO KILL WIFE;

An estate labourer at Choorikad near Kutta attempted to set his wife ablaze.

According to police, Shashi poured kerosene on his wife Manjula and attempted to murder her, suspecting her fidelity.

Manjula is shifted to madikeri hospital with severe burn injuries.
