DISTRICT GEARS UP FOR ELECTIONS;

The district has geared up for Zilla Panchayath and Gram

Panchayath elections to be held on this 19th. Final touches were given for training the officials, security arrangements and counting booths etc.

The district election officer will monitor the 425 booths in the district with the assistance of four booth officials. Training for officials would be conducted on thirteenth in three taluka head quarters.. Around 215 vehicles would be officially set to motion for election duty. As much as 2975 officials would be pressed to service to see that the elections take off smoothly.

Ballot boxes would be locked at Field marshal K.M.Cariappa college Madikeri, Junior college Virajpet and Government Polytechnic, kushalnagar till 23 under heavy guard.

Government has appointed the administrator of family and welfare department, Baladevakrishna to supervise the election expenditure of all the candidates in the district. He will be assisted with three other officials stationed at Madikeri, Virajpet and Somwarpet.

Meanwhile sale of liquor is banned in the district on the day of the election.

LADY FROM KODAGU DIES IN ACCIDENT;

A house wife, Nagaveni, 42 met with a gruesome accident and died on the spot at Bhadravathi yesterday.

Sister of an hotelier Nagendra Prasad from Kushalnagar, Nagaveni was hit by a speeding motor cycle from behind. As she rolled down on the main road, a bus ran over her head.

Deceased is the wife of Suresh, an employee at Iron and ore industry at Bhadravathi.
