GERMANS SHOW CONCERN ABOUT ENVIRONMENT;Founder of the "Green party" in Germany, Wolfcang Schilling and his wife Dr.Ursula Scheben, during their visit to Madikeri appealed the authorities to protect environment.They spoke to this correspondent after a walk to Abbi falls situated 8 KMs from the town. The couple said that plastic and garbage could be seen on either side of the road to Abbi falls as tourists throw waste unhesitant. They said that awareness should be brought towards the ill effects from this degradation. Picture: German couple HIGH WAY TREES;Wolfcang Schilling, who is visiting India for the sixth time said that the cutting of trees in the name of road widening is unreasonable. Instead of cutting trees on either side, causing ecological balance, it could be cut on one side or adjacent lands could be acquired. The couple said that they will write to state and central ministry about their observation. Schilling is working in environmental projects since thirty years. ‘SHASHTI CELEBRATED WITH SPIRITUAL FERVOR’;Sree Subrahmanya Shashti was celebrated all over Kodagu with Spiritual fervor. Thousands of devotees thronged temples at Onkareshwar at Madikeri, Subrahmanya temple at Byrambada and Kudige. Annadana was performed to thousands of people in all the temples all over the district. She will receive her certificate from the governor on December 22 during the convocation to be held in Hampi University. |
