HUTTHARI FESTIVAL ON FOURTEENTH;

Priests and community heads have decided that the famous festival of harvest, Hutthari would be celebrated on 14th of December.

Earlier the festival was scheduled for 15th. Devathakka parandanda Chengappa and family, 13 heads and astrologers, office bearers of the Bhaktajana Sanga met at Padi Sree Iggutappa temple and fixed the date.

The traditional festival will have Kaladcha celebration on 13th night. Harvesting would be carried out on 14th at 9.30 P.M. Prasadam would be distributed at 10.30 P.M.

425 CANDIDATES TO FIGHT TP, ZP ELECTIONS;

As much as 257 candidates have filed their nomination papers to contest from 49 Taluk Panchayath constituencies and 168 candidates for 29 Zilla Panchayath constituency.

The candidates represent all major parties and independents.

NABARD PROPOSES 604 CR PLAN;

The NABARD has proposed a Potential Link Credit plan of rupees 604.56 crores for the year 2006 - 7, to Kodagu.

Assistant General manager of NABARD, A.L.Kulkarni has said in a press release that the major portion of the plan is devoted to Coffee crop loan. Around rupees 303.80 is earmarked for crop loan. The total agriculture crop loan amounts to rupees 424.38.

Rupees 79.41 is allocated for agriculture and alloyed activities, 94.12 crores for priority sectors, rupees 32.62 crores for plantation and horticulture. Remaining amount is allocated for minor irrigation, non-farm sectors etcetera.

MISAPPROPRIATION AT VSSN BANK;

M.K.Ponnappa, President of the Nelaji VSSN Bank limited has said the past president of the bank Sabu uthappa misappropriates huge amount.

A complaint was lodged with the Napoklu police station to initiate action against him.

It is alleged that Sabu Uthappa, serving in the Bank for more than fifteen years under various capacities has drawn loan under benami names and misappropriated the amount. M.S.Belliappa, M.B.Thammaiah and B.M.Appaiah have complained that Uthappa has drawn loan amount in their names too, putting them in a fix.

While the president disclosed the fraud, the members decided to demand enquiry and punishment.

RASTA ROKHO BY KAVERI SENE;

The members of the Kaveri sene, led by its convenor Ravi Chengappa conducted a symbolic rasta rokho yesterday at madikeri.

The members who are on dharna, opposing the hydel project at Abbe falls since thirteen days went out in a procession and demanded that the district incharge minister should immediately come and inspect the place. Ravi Chengappa said that they will continue their dharna till the project is stopped.

Though the district incharge minister has released to media a copy of a letter instructing the deputy commissioner to stop the work, the work at the spot is still going on.
