ATTEMPT TO MURDER; FIVE YEAR R.I;

The district and sessions court here has sentenced two persons to undergo rigorous imprisonment on charges of attempt to murder.

It was alleged that Mekerira Dinesh, Mohan and Manju attempted to kill one Vinay on 17.4.2004 at Kudlur near Virajpet. Vinay was way laid by the accused while he was raiding motor cycle along with one Narendra. He was beaten by sprinkling chilly powder on the face.

The court sentenced Dinesh and Manju to undergo five years RI while the main accused Mohan has passed away during the course of inquiry.

CNC DEMANDS FESTIVAL HOLIDAY;

The Codava National Council has demanded state holiday for the kodava festival Kailpoldh being observed on first of September by CNC. He said that a seven day holiday should be declared considering the festival as a Naada habba.

The secretary general Mr.N.U.Nachappa has said that the government should declare holiday to a festival which has cultural background and is being celebrated by Kodavas all over.

He also said that CNC will hold Kailpoldu at Mann’s compound, Madikeri on September first where people will take part. This festival is celebrated on different days in different regions of Kodagu starting from August 15th.

YEDIYURAPPA WARNS OFFICERS

The opposition leader B.S. Yeiyurappa came down heavily on the negligence behaviour of the Thaluk Thahsildar Virajpet and also the Kodagu deputy Commissioner. Yediyurappa along with the State BJP president Jagadish Shettar and the M.P.Sadananda Gowda visited Seetha Colony, Ponnapmet, South Kodagu. He found the collapse of three house due to heavy rain and no compensation was given to the affected residents. When asked, the thaluk Thahasidar Kandera Somaiah he replied he does not know about the damages. Yediyurappa took him to task and told he will meet the Chief minister and recommend for the Thahsidar’s suspension. Further, Yediyurappa contacted the Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav over pine during his tour in South Kodagu and asked about the distribution of compensations in the district. Yadav told he would call back and inform about the developments. Even after a long time Yediyurappa did not got any call from the Deputy Commissioner. During the press conference at Virajpet Yediuyurappa criticized the attitude of the officers. Although the concerned officials are empowered to release Rs. 10 thousand on the spot to the affected p[people they have not anything in Kodagu-he alleged.Alangur Shrinivas, the Kodagu District Incharge Minister who voiced for more relief funds with the Govt. should also see that the amounts are properly released to the affected p[people- Yediyurappa suggested. The Govt. has failed in releasing the amount in a proper way although the Canter has released Rs. 400 crores under rain damages relief fund. Jagadish Shettar urged the Govt. to release white paper on the total compensation released and distributerd. M.L.A’s H.D.Basavaraju, K.G. Bopaiah, and others were present during the visit. Yediyurappa continued his tour in Somawarpet and Madikeri thaluks during evenings.
