EX SERVICEMAN DONE TO DEATH;

A DISPUTE OVER LAND BORDER ENDED IN A BIZARRE KILLING OF AN EX SERVICEMAN AT Hoddur near Madikeri.

According to police, his own family member Ramesh Uthappa stabbed Vanchira Ravi Somaiah, aged 48 to death, 51 yesterday in his paddy field.

The estate labourers found Somaiah wincing in pain and sleeping in a pool of blood in his field yesterday and shifted him to hospital. But he died on the way. Somaiah bled to death with several stabbing injuries all over his body.

The accused Ramesh went to a friend’s house after the incident and fell unconscious. He accused Somaiah of attacking him. His friends who shifted him to hospital were shocked to find Somaiah’s dead body in the hospital. Police arrested the accused in the hospital and took him to custody.

Deceased leaves wife and two children.

ANOTHER MURDER ROCKS DISTRICT;

Residents of Mekeri village near Madikeri woke to news of a gory killing today.

An agriculturist was hacked to death by unknown persons at yesterday night. Passers by noticed the dead body lying in a pool of blood in the middle of the road.

The deceased is identified as Chondira Ganesh, 38.

According to his wife the crime could have been committed by their own family members who were disputing about sharing the rooms in the Ain house. Ganesh was staying in the house along with his wife and two children. But yesterday he had a tiff with his wife Bhagirathi and she went away to stay with a relative. She stated that her husband used to beat her in a drunken state every night.

Deceased was brutally butchered and his head nearly hung out of the body.

Police are investigating.


DISTRICT HAS 580 BLINDS;

The district has about 580 blind persons, according to official survey.

Informing this in a special meeting conducted here yesterday, the Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayath Mr.Sundar Naik stated that awareness should be created in the district about removing blindness.

The district administration held the meeting to mark the eye donation fortnight being observed all over the Nation.

Addressing the gathering, eye specialist Dr.Sudhakar regretted that India has dearth for eye donors. He informed that Srilanka has highest number of donors.

Doctors Palekar and Anitha Kiran spoke on the occasion and said that eye could be donated between the age group of 18 and 55. While World has around 4 crore blinds, India alone has one crore, they said.

DHO Jagannath welcomed the gathering.

The function was organized in a most disordered way that no people’s representatives or the Deputy Commissioner attended the meeting as was printed in the invitation. The invitations were not distributed in advance.

CNC DEMANDS AMENDMENT;

The secretary general of Codava National Council mr.N.U.Nachappa has urged the Prime Minister to amend the Hindu Succession act and remove Kodava tag from it.

In a letter addressed to the PM and other concerned ministers and Congress Chief Mrs.Sonia Gandhi, Nachappa has appealed that separate legal system and security be given to Kodava race on par with Hindu law, Islamic Shariayath and Indian Succession act under article 371.

He has said that Kodavas deserve such a treatment and a separate constitutional amendment shall be brought preventing the applicability of any of the provisions of Hindu laws.
