POLICE SEIZE ILLEGAL WEAPON;District Crime Branch police yesterday blocked a Maruthi omni and seized two weapons illegally being transported. What worried the police was a rifle used in service was with the culprits. Acting on a tip off, the Maruthi Omni was seized near Sudarshan circle at Madikeri yesterday evening. Police found one 303 rifle and ammunition used by the army and one more country made revolver with ammunition. Two persons Balekuttira A.Ramesh of Mythadi village and C.K.Suresh of Periyapatna were arrested by the police led by circle inspector Mr.Lingappa. The accused have given tips about the purchase and sale of weapons. Police are investigating. Meanwhile, they also confiscated the Maruthi omni which had no documents. PUBLIC BLOCK CMC MEETING;In an unprecedented move yesterday residents of Madikeri entered the meeting hall where the City municipal Council was conducting meeting and created ruckus. Pandemomium broke as residents began slogans against the commissioner and alleged that the CMC officials are not heeding to their pleas. They alleged that compensation is not paid to the shops gutted in Market yard 8 months ago and documents of land and others are being intentionally delayed, developments are ignored in the town. The meeting was with held as confusion prevailed. Few members also left the meeting hall along with the residents, stating that the meetings are held for namesake. Member Mr.K.M.B.Ganesh and Razak questioned why the resolution passed in the last meeting to handover investigation of misuse of rupees one crore was not entered. The MLA Mr.K.G.Bopaiah tried to pacify the members and tried to support the matter. Ganesh went outside and re entered the hall along with fifty residents, men and women who shouted slogans again. Unable to control and convince the crowd, administrator and HQA Mr.Subramanyam postponed cancelled the meeting. NEW VARIENT OF COFFEE FOUND IN CAMEROON;A new variant of coffee was found in the western hills of Cameroon by the earth watch team. This variety has an unusual pink flower rarely found. This was considered as a new variety to science. Coffee is one of the four wild species in Cameroon which is in fifteenth place in the list of Coffee growing countries. A resident of Kodagu living in Cameroon has mailed the picture to this correspondent asking whether a similar variety could be traced in “Male”, high , unexplored hills of Kodagu. It’s a challenge the botanists in kodagu should take. |
