TUSKER DIESA tusker aged eight died at Hirekere forest area near Shanivarsanthe, according to forest officials. The report stated that the tusker was killed in a fight supposedly with another. A forester yesterday noticed a decomposed body of the elephant inside the forest. The decomposed carcass stood in a slushy, swampy area in a standing form. The officials said that the tusker must have died three days ago. The department inside the forest cremated it. DC WARNS TO CLOSE THEATRES;The deputy commissioner paid a surprise visit to the two cinema theatres at Madikeri and urged the owners to close them down. His visit came as the owners had sought permission to renovate the theatres. Deputy Commissioner Mr.Subodh yadav found that basic facilities in the theatre are insufficient. However, as the owners pleaded to set right the faults with immediate effect, DC asked them to update the service in fifteen days time or face cancellation of license.The only two theatres in the city are owned by single management. WORLD BANK TO RELEASE FOUR CRORES;The City Municipal Commissioner Mr.Jeevan Kumar and Assistant executive engineer Mr.Shivkumar told that a rupees four crore scheme to develop infrastructure in the city with the World bank assistance is on the card and is in the approval stage. Talking to a section of scribes, they stated that the Karnataka Urban Development Board with the assistance of World bank will implement the scheme. The scheme includes improving drinking water system, road and drainage, improving poverty level, shifting of private bus stand etc. The World Bank will release rupees 2.44 crore as free grant and remaining in the form of loan. CNC –STAGED DHARNAThe Codava National Council (C.N.C) members under the leadership of N.U.Nachappa staged a Dharna at Gandhi square, Cubbon park, Bangalore on 18th from 9.A.M. to 4.30 P.M. The activists wore the traditional Kodava dress and demanded the consideration of provisions provided in the Constitution for Kodavas who are the origianal inhabitants in Kodagiu District. The Govts’ should protect the interest of the community – the agitators demanded. Reservation in employment and education sector, Separate Commission should be set up to study and report the necessaities of the community as a whole. The Govt. should change Kodagu as Codava land, the community should be allowed to use the land, should be freely allowed to exhibit their tradition and culture- the demand mentions.
