URGE TO NAME JEEVIJAYA AS DISTRICT IN CHARGE;

A high-level congress committee of Somwarpet has urged the government to appoint MLA Mr.B.A.Jeevijaya as district in charge minister.

In a meeting held yesterday, former president of Zilla Panchayath Mrs.Jayamma stressed the need to appoint a local MLA as the district in charge. The meeting attended by Congress and its supporting Mandal Panchayath presidents expressed their support and said that ministers from outside cannot understand the local problems.

Mrs.Jayamma stated that she would lead a delegation to the Chief minister to press the demand. She also threatened that she will do self-immolation if the government ignores their demand.

DEMAND FOR REHABILITATION;

Around fifty Tribal families have urged the government to shift them from Nagarahole National park and provide alternate arrangements.

Urging the forest department through various organizations from Kutta region they alleged that the departments have ignored their plea, in spite of central government urging the tribes to vacate. They stated that the facility to rehabilitate them was not being utilized by the department.

So far government has rehabilitated around 250 families from the National park and hundreds more still live inside the forest.

BBTC TAKES UP ROAD WORK;

The BBTC group of estates has taken up road repair work voluntarily at Maldare near Siddapur region as the PWD has ignored the road repair.

The group manager Mr.Saniyal told that they decided to repair the roads as a service and pressed 70 labourers to service for five days. Lorry loads of boulders were used to fill the potholes from Maldare to Herur village.

It can be recalled that the villagers in these regions had held rasta roko demanding immediate repair of roads , last month.

However the PWD ignored its promise to do it.

OFFICIALS URGED TO SPEED UP WORK;

The district in charge secretary Mr.Sridhar urged the officials to be fast in doing service.

Addressing the Karnataka Development Review Meeting yesterday he cautioned them not to give excuses and said that the demand from public be given first priorities.

He also told the KPTCL and PWD officials to remove road obstacles created during the heavy rainfall period within a week.

CEO Mr.Sundar Naik requested the secretary to release grant amounts required for the works.

Kannada Jagruthi samity member Mr.G.Chidvilas urged the secretary to insist Mandal panchayaths to urge the business establishments to display boards in Kannada at the time of issuing licence. He also observed that high-tension wires in highway passing through Sunticoppa to Madikeri hang unprotected and requested to rectify the danger.
